Winter Iowa Games - Friday, January 25 to Sunday, January 27
Pack your tennis shoes and head to Dubuque for the main weekend of the Winter Iowa Games. With 19 different sports, an opening ceremony and an athlete jamboree, this is an athletic event not be missed!
Started in August 1987, the Iowa Games featured 16 sports and 7,104 participants, which was nearly a record number at that time for a first-year state games. According to the Iowa Games website, “for the first time, weekend athletes, school children and senior citizens could experience the thrill of great performances and satisfaction of doing their best in a statewide Olympic-style competition.” In 2011, more than 4,000 athletes came out to participate in the games.

Paddle Day - Saturday, January 26
Join fellow paddlers at the Indian Creek Nature Center from noon until 4:30 p.m. to experience the sixth annual Paddle Day. Learn more about water health issues in your area, discover new river recreation opportunities and view the latest innovation in equipment presented by professionals.
Presenters include Sven Leff of City of Cedar Rapids Recreation, DNR Water Trails Coordinator John Wenck and Paul Sleeper, a fisheries biologist for the Iowa DNR.
Cost to Indian Creek Nature Center members is $8 and $12 for non-members.
